MALÉ — Mohamed Farushath, President of the Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission (MMBC), has resigned from the Commission today.

In a letter addressed to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, Farushath stated that he is resigning because there are unresolved obstacles preventing the Commission from carrying out its work properly and from dealing with all media outlets with equality and fairness.

He further noted in the letter that his hope is for media outlets to function as a body that upholds the rights of the people in a free environment—intellectually, financially, and editorially. He also highlighted that the law has guided the Commission and its members to uphold the standards and ethical rules of the Maldivian media while performing their duties with equality and fairness.

Farushath was appointed President of the Commission one year ago, on 27 October 2025. The Maldives Media and Broadcasting Commission consists of seven members: three appointed by Parliament and four elected by the media. Farushath was a member appointed by Parliament.
